Mobile Food Day #3
In Residence Park Neighborhood
On Thursday, June 21, 2018, 9:00 a.m., the third Mobile Food Day was held in the Residence Park Neighborhood at the St. Paul AME Zion Church, 4544 Laurel Drive, 45417.
The registration time was set at 9:00 a.m. with community volunteers prepared to serve residents of the 45417 zip code areas; however, no residents were turned away. All who registered were served.
The overall goal of this project is to address the growing need for community residents who have no ability to shop for fresh vegetables and fruit from a local area market. By providing the Dayton Food Bank Mobile Truck to the west-side churches, residents are encouraged to register and receive free produce, fruit, and bread products.
The Dayton Neighborhood Corps, Dayton Food Bank, the Dakota Center, Inc., and Residence Park Neighborhood Association are partners with this project. Area churches have agreed to host the event each month. Six (6) Mobile Food Days have been planned for the west Dayton neighborhoods (April through September).
The Dayton Neighborhood Corps (Planning & Community Development) recruited 60 volunteers, including members from area churches in Residence Park, Residence Park Neighborhood Association, Community Development Staff, and the Dakota Center, Inc. staff.
