Happy New Year Vol.2 Issue 1

I love miracles, and I love food, so food miracles are captivating to me. Over the holidays filled with parties and food in abundance I would hear, every now and then, complaints about what was served. When such complaining occurs around food it takes me back to the Israelites and their complaining about eating manna. They wanted meat and so while complaining about one miracle they wanted another one. The capacity of complaining for the Israelites was simply astounding and we scoff at the Israelites for grumbling about a meal of manna that was miraculously delivered to their doorsteps every day yet don’t we do the same thing in our own lives? Doesn’t it seem that complaining, not kindness, fill many interactions between people and maybe even cause conflicts in our own heart?

There are miracles around us all the time, yet it is so easy to find something to complain about in the midst of those miracles. You and I are only one defining decision away from a totally different life. One defining decision can change your life’s trajectory. The defining decision is a choice between complaining about the hardships of life or celebrating the blessings woven into those hardships. Celebrating our blessings of what we do have is a state of living called gratitude. When the rain comes in our lives we need to seek shelter in our blessings not complain about getting wet. The defining decision is to do so. The result of celebrating regularly will create a positive environment you look forward to living and working in every day no matter what the weather of life is. We here at Dakota Center are grateful to be building character and connecting community rain or shine and wish everyone a healthy and happy 2019!
