Bread for the World — Lenten Prayers for an End to Hunger

Even with low unemployment too many hard-working Americans aren’t able to make ends meet. 1 in 6 children still live in a family that struggles to put food on the table.

For the Season of Lent, Dakota Center will be sharing “Lenten Prayers for and End to World Hunger.” While this is a global effort for Bread for the World, these prayers and their focus are directly related to the food hardships we see each and every day here at the center.

About Bread for the World Institute:
Bread for the World Institute provides nonpartisan policy analysis on hunger and strategies to end it. The Institute has been educating opinion leaders, policymakers, and the public about hunger in the United States and abroad since 1975.

The first week of Lent is March 10-16 so please come on back each week to join us in prayer to not only accelerate progress to end global hunger but hunger right here in Dayton OH.

Pray to End Hunger:

Prayer is essential to ending hunger by 2030. God’s grace in Jesus Christ moves us, and prayer equips us to take faith-grounded advocacy actions.

The Bible provides numerous examples of men and women like Nehemiah, Esther, Daniel, and the prophets, who prayed intensely prior to carrying out acts of justice, advocacy, or service. Jesus, our ultimate advocate and example of spiritual discipline, prayed and fasted for 40 days before beginning his earthly ministry.

Through prayer, we acknowledge our insufficiency and our dependence on the Holy Spirit to effectively witnesses to God’s love for humankind. Through prayer, God’s story and our story connect to transform the world.

We at the Dakota Center accept Bread for the World’s invitation to pray for the end hunger part of your regular prayer life. Will you join us?
