After School programs can provide valuable learning and development opportunities. As great as school can be they are not the sole avenue for life’s developmental opportunities. Generally, the science of learning supports multiple quality oriented settings and systems like After School Programs.
Creating cultural settings centered on supportive, positive, relationships between students and staff (frankly, all our caring adults) is foundational to sustaining a trusted learning atmosphere. What fills the atmosphere is an air of character development skills blended with treating everyone with dignity and respect. Circulate through a little fun to connect community and you have the essence of The Homework Club After School Program experience.
Each day our goal is to create positive, fun, cultures comprising strong relationships, trust, and belonging. Having the rest of the school year delivered as distant learning is emotionally hard to take. We truly miss having all the activities here at the center because that is what we are, your community center. Most of all we miss the celebrations.
So in recognition of this week being Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week, The Dakota Center honor the academic class of 2019-20 for learning from home. An estimated 850,000 professionals work with children and youth during out-of-school hours providing enriching experiences. We thank all the afterschool professionals at our program during Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week.
Finally, Erin Wilson, Homework Club Program Coordinator. Seeing you first hand model, lead, and positively influence students’ development during out-of-school hours is an honor. To Mark, Homework Club reading specialist and the rest of us here at the center supporting our After School Program thank our After School Families for their support.
