A parade was held on Jan. 16 in Dayton, Ohio to remember Martin Luther King Jr. This parade took place from West Dayton to Sinclair College. Hundreds of people joined in to participate in this event to pay their respects to Martin Luther King Jr. and all he did to create the world we live in today. The Dayton Daily News has a quote from one pf the parades attendees.
They stated, ‘“I’m energized and my faith is increased in humanity and what we do in Montgomery County to bring about equal treatment of all people, racial justice and opportunity for everyone in our society,” said Carol Prewitt, 69, of Huber Heights.” Parades and events like these are held to remind us of the progress we have made, and how to continue that progress through the work of those before us. Although the famous “I Have a Dream” speech was given in 1963, events being held many years later show how high of an impact this has had.
During the parade held, “Community members of all stripes and walks of life joined politicians, labor leaders, clergy and activists for the MLK memorial march”, according to Dayton Daily News. Along with all these participants, the parade has returning people that have not missed the parade in a decade. This dedication shows the immense impact Martin Luther King Jr. had during his life.
