Covid-19 virus and The Dakota Center

Dear Dakota Center Community,

Like every other community gathering place, The Dakota Center is on heightened alert because of the Covid-19 virus.  Currently, Dayton Public Schools (DPS) is holding classes as scheduled however have cancelled all field trips as a preventative measure.  Since many of our after school program children attend DPS and that our after school program follows DPS schedule of being open or closed, we will continue to monitor DPS for any changes in status of operation.

We also have a senior adult program which serves seniors living independently.  Since this virus is especially hazardous to those who are older, the center has increased our efforts to clean and sanitize all public areas of the center by frequently wiping down all hard surfaces like tables, chairs, counter tops, door handles, light switches and the like.  Moreover, alcohol-based hand sanitizer bottles are placed around the facility.  These are easily visible and accessible.

Standard hygiene practices like keeping a safe distance from others, washing your hands, covering your sneeze/cough are augmented by emphasizing the need to keep your hands below your chin.   Another standard practice of self-monitoring any illness is being addressed repeatedly so if someone is coughing or feeling ill they are reminded not to come to work, volunteer, or attend any programming until fully healthy.  As a standard practice anyone should self-quarantine if they have any fever until 48 hours of no fever has passed.

We ask of everyone to continue following everyday common hygiene practices, self-monitor for any sign of illness and stay away until fully healthy.  The Dakota Center remains a safe and secure environment and should something change we will respond accordingly as our Emergency Plan Procedure Manuel dictates.  If you have any questions about the center’s operational status please call us at (937) 228-8961 and/or check our website at www.dakotacenter.org.  For more information please refer to the guidance provided by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention at www.cdc.gov .
