Homework Club

Our after-school program, The Homework Club, had a bowling party just before they enjoyed the annual Thanksgiving meal. Last year we did not hold the events because of the lockdowns in place.

We had 8 bowlers and about 20 for the Thanksgiving meal. The enrollment in the program is still not where we would like it to be. Even though the number of children were not as large as hoped, everyone had a great time.

Quick prayer before digging in

It was nice to be able to return to some sort of regularity by holding these events. We know it is going to be a while before we see our usual numbers of 65-70 children.

For the Thanksgiving celebration, everyone had a nametag and on the back wrote something for which they are grateful. Then, one by one, each stood up and shared what they wrote. This helps the children identify gratitude, strengthen their confidence by speaking publicly, and, for those not speaking, work on their listening skills.

It was just enough to get things rolling as each expression of gratitude built on the last. We are going to have a great holiday season when, next month, things kick into high gear. It was so good for the soul to see the long Thanksgiving table set up once again down the grand hallway. Things are slowly getting back to the way it was pre-COVID.
