Kaleb’s Corner Dedication Address

NW Corner

This is my text delivered to those in attendance. We had almost 80 people.

Good morning and welcome to this dedication ceremony. We especially want to welcome Kaleb’s mother Brittany Williams and father Dominique Cook, their families, and friends.

On behalf of the board of directors, our staff, the countless volunteers, and, most of all our clients, we are very excited for today. We have gathered here to dedicate our new playground to the memory of Kaleb Mondale Cook.

Kaleb’s Corner

Tragically, back in 2015, on May 11th, Kaleb, a second-grade student at the World of Wonder Pre-K through 8 grade school, was fatally hit by a car just outside the entrance to our parking lot. The devastation this tragic accident caused on that fateful day can never be wiped away. It is in loving memory of Kaleb we have named this brand-new playground area: Kaleb’s Corner.

I want to recognize the lead donors and those that helped us make this dream come true. First off, I want to make special recognition of the Kettering Family Philanthropies Foundation and in particular, Kathy Reed, for their long standing, steady, and passionate support for The Dakota Center. Additionally, a new relationship with Aloft Dayton: Advancing Racial Equity came about just at the right time to add their substantial support.

Without these foundations taking the lead, our dream would have been delayed even longer. My heartfelt appreciation to all of you who honor Kaleb. N

Now let’s head out to the ribbon cutting part of today’s dedication before the rain comes back. Lord, all we ask is 10 more minutes before the rain comes again.

I invite all who wish to join us over in Kaleb’s Corner of our outdoor basketball court then come on back in to join us for lunch.
