The December 19th Community Drive Thru Christmas Party was a great success. Christmas is always a powerful time for reflection. The true spirit of Christmas is evidenced best in a generous heart. It is a charitable time, a time for kindness and joy. When we truly embrace the spirit of Christmas, with all its warmth, joy and love, we most closely resemble the spirit of Bethlehem and the character of baby Jesus.
A few Christmas Party miracles we want to share. We had tremendous sponsorships to help cover the expenses. Dayton Food Bank, Molina Healthcare, Waldorf Lodge #76 and Theo Hart (a UD Student who took it upon himself to raise donations totaling over $1,000) efforts were truly miraculous. Pastor Lori Reiber of Oakwood United Methodist Church’s congregation provided the stockings for the children. These stockings were filled with so much stuff it had to be a miracle! We had 18 volunteers who helped set up before, distribute during, and to clean up afterward. Thanks be to God.
We had a few more than the limit of 100 registrants composing 199 adults and 297 children. Each family received a holiday food box, their choice of a whole turkey or chicken, and a large gift bag containing a filled stocking(s) for each child, personal hygiene products for the whole family, a bunch of Christmas Candy, 6 bottles of water and a $20 gift card.
While this year’s celebration was not as entertaining as 2019, we are so grateful for the opportunity to hold this annual event. There still was a feeling of community and connectedness. The smiles were still a big and warm as last year which left our hearts full of the Christmas Spirit.
