In 73 days, I complete the 6th year as Executive Director of The Dakota Street Center Incorporated.
Reflecting back on the past six years one of the most exciting aspects about the position is you wear many hats and, to be most effective, you need to wear them all equally well. I wish after six years I could say I wear them all equally well but they’re becoming more and more balanced in both their approach, their effectiveness, and their impact.
Another exciting part of this position is being the public face of your organization. It is no secret how grateful I am for being part of the story of The Dakota Center. I take this role and responsibility seriously because it’s the most visible and concrete embodiment of what I do. I am always very conscientious to represent the Center in a professional manner, especially when invited to do so.
Here are two links from interviews about The Dakota Center’s impact. Thank you once again,
Jay Meyer (Episode 17)
for extending me the opportunity to tell our story.

Hello. My name is Kimberly Wright and I just finished reading about the history of the Dakota Center and I was amazed at how the center got started. When I was younger, I participated in activities that the Dakota Center, such as drill team and dance class. Three of my sisters also participated in the same activities that I did. One of my sisters was on the Dakota Center’s basketball team as well. this was back in the 1970’s. we had so much fun! The Dakota Center kept all the kids in our neighborhood out of trouble. The Center also caused us to focus on positive things like having good relationships with others and helped us be respectful of each other and our elders! I contacted the Dakota Center yesterday to see if there were any job opportunities for me. I just want to say thank you to the people at Dakota Center who made our youth a priority. Thank you for caring so much about the young black community in which we lived. at the Dakota Center we made so many unforgettable memories that we still reminisce over. If there are any job opportunities at the center, would you please contact me at 937-460-0138 and/or send me an email at the address below? Thank you. Ms. Kimberly.
