Mobile Food Pantry #5….over 16,000 lbs of food distributed so far

Thursday, August 16, 2018, 9:00 a.m., the fifth Mobile Food Day served west Dayton residents in the Philadelphia Woods neighborhood. The location was Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 3375 W. Siebenthaler Avenue.

The registration time for clients was scheduled at 9:00 a.m. Registration began earlier due to clients arriving at 7:30 a.m. Clients living in the 45405/06 zip codes were served, however no residents were turned away. All who registered were served.

The continued goal of this project is to address the growing need of community residents who have no ability to shop for fresh fruit and vegetables from local area markets in their immediate neighborhood. The Dayton Food Bank Mobile Truck provided free produce, fruit, and bread products to clients who registered with the local food bank.

The Dayton Neighborhood Corps (Department of Planning & Community Development) and Mt. Calvary Baptist Church recruited over seventy (70) volunteers, including members from other community churches in Residence Park and the Highview Hills neighborhood. Other volunteers were members of the Residence Park neighborhood association, Community Development staff, AmeriCorps, Dayton Job Corps, and staff from the Dakota Center, Inc.
